Paul Brady instructs young handballers

Paul Brady.

On Friday evening last 23rd April Paul Brady, All Ireland Senior 40x20 handball Champion, provided coaching to a group of students from Ballinamore PPS in Fenagh handaball alley. Paul, who is currently training to be a teacher, was on a weeks work experience in Ballinamore Secondary School last week. The session was organised by school principle Padraig Leydon and provided his students with an opportunity to gain some valuable tips and advice from a player of national prominence. On the same theme GAA handball plan to implement a national development plan commencing in October this year, consisting of structured coaching sessions around the country targeted at national school level, again facilitated by prominent players like Paul Brady.

GAA Handball was featured as part of a documentary into the sport, entitled "Four Walls and a Ball" on Newstalk Radio on Sunday last 25th April. If you missed the original broadcast a podcast of the documentary is available at www.gaahandball.ie, click on the NEWSTALK HANDBALL DOCUMENTARY link.

THANK YOU

Thank you to everyone who attended the launch of the website on Saturday evening.  I hope you would all agree that it's nice to know that we're being recognised at a county and national level.  Thank you to Niamh Egan for taking the time to attend.

It was great to hear that the things that we're doing here with the website as well as Twitter and Facebook are a step in the right direction, and these are communication methods that we will continue to grow.

Please contact us with suggestions about additional content that we can add, or information you feel would be relevant for you to know.  We're reachable at - contact@fenaghhandball.com.

Fenagh Handball Club, "Connaught Club of the Year" is a dynamic and vibrant GAA Handball club situated in the heart of the south Leitrim countryside. It is a club which is deeply integrated into the local community and is gaining a reputation as a central meeting point and preferred competition venue for many senior 60x30 players throughout the West & Northwest regions of Ireland.

The club provides a comprehensive juvenile and adult coaching regime. Historically the club has achieved significant competitive success at County, Provincial and National levels in both handball codes. During 2009 this competitive success was crowned with a U15 one wall world handball title.
The initial fabric of our alley was constructed in 1912. Originally a one wall configuration, it was later converted into a three wall 60x30 structure, in 1954. Further upgrades to the alley were completed in 1991 with the final phase of development represented by the building you see today. Completed in July 2008 our new indoor alley provides lighting, a high spec playing surface and a glass back wall with provision for a viewing area and changing rooms.

Indeed the ability to provide year round coaching and competitions has seen a huge influx of local juvenile players. Our primary objective is to ensure that these players enjoy the game of handball in each age group and at all levels of ability. Our club aims to develop an inclusive and competitive culture which we believe will form the foundation for the future development of the game in the area, leading to even greater competitive success for the club.

Over the coming weeks and months we plan to increase the amount of information on this site, not only to cover the history and plans for the club, but to make it THE place to come for training, competition information, results and indeed to provide a portal for our members to the wider Handball community and GAA activities.

In preparation for the official launch of this website in January 2010 please, go ahead, explore what we have, but more importantly get back to us with suggestions and feedback. Your input is important and greatly appreciated. Don't forget that you can also sign up to follow us on Facebook and Twitter for real time information.
